Working closely with Curtins Consulting, Keller delivered a low carbon foundations solution in line with the UK government’s energy consumption and net zero targets. Works were completed in less than four weeks.
The project
The construction of a 1500-place academy to replace the existing 50+ year old facility. The new school comprises a three-storey teaching block and two-storey sports hall.
The challenge
To provide a ground improvement solution through variable Glacial soils to accommodate relatively high line loadings of up to 550kN.m for the retaining walls, while offering the greenest feasible foundation solution in support of the government’s energy consumption and net zero targets.
The solution
VSCs were selected to achieve a bearing capacity of up to 150kN/m2 and facilitate the construction of shallow foundations and ground bearing floor slabs and swimming pools.
