Pile Design and installation for storm water new tank foundations.

Provided a low vibration cast in-situ solution

Early contractor involvement allowed working platform and site logistics to be effectively managed to maximise efficiencies on site.

‘Keller completed their piling works efficiently and provided all quality assurance documentation in a timely manner. Keller’s site team integrated effectively and took a lead on the start of shift briefings.’ (Client Senior PM)

Bored piling

The project

The construction of a new storm water tank at Severn Trent’s Finham Sewage Treatment Works (STW).

The challenge

To provide a design and install solution for the pilng works to support the new tank.  The soil profile consisted of up to 4-5m of made ground and firm clays overlying medium strong to strong Sandstone and Mudstone. One of the key risks which needed to be mitigated was the ability to bore this strong rock and ensure the piles provided the required length to accommodate the tension loads specified.

The solution

Rotary bored piling was adopted as the piling solution.  Keller selected a 750/650mm diameter pile for tension loads of up to 1000kN . Early contractor involvement allowed working platform and site logistics to be effectively managed to maximise efficiencies on site. Review of design information allowed the reinforcement to be minimised allowing saving in cost and carbon footprint. All works were completed safely and within the contracted programme.
